Public Consultation:
REVISED MRC ESG GUIDELINES
Preamble
The Malaysian rubber industry continues to operate in an increasingly sustainability-driven business environment, where regulators, buyers, financiers, certification bodies and other stakeholders expect stronger transparency, traceability, responsible sourcing, labour integrity, environmental management and governance practices.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations are therefore becoming an important part of business resilience, market access and long-term competitiveness for Malaysian rubber processors, manufacturers, traders, exporters, suppliers and other industry participants.
In support of this agenda, the Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) has developed ESG Guidelines and supporting tools to assist companies in understanding relevant ESG topics, assessing current practices, identifying gaps, collecting data, maintaining evidence, preparing disclosures and planning continuous improvement.
The objective of this exercise is to strengthen the practicality, clarity, usability and relevance of the Guidelines and tools for Malaysian rubber industry stakeholders.
Purpose of the Stakeholder Engagement
A stakeholder engagement session was held on 8 June 2026 at MRC to obtain stakeholder validation on the enhanced MRC ESG Guidelines and the supporting tools developed under this exercise.
The session is intended to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to review the proposed content, consider its practical application, and provide constructive feedback on how the Guidelines and tools may be further improved before finalisation.
Stakeholders are invited to provide comments on, among others:
- The clarity, structure and practicality of the Guidelines;
- The relevance of the ESG topics, indicators and evidence requirements;
- The usability of the ESG Checklist and supporting tools;
- The suitability of the tools for companies at different levels of ESG maturity;
- The alignment of the Guidelines with market, regulatory, customer and supply chain expectations; and
- Any technical, operational or editorial improvements that may assist implementation by the Malaysian rubber industry.

Review of Stakeholder Feedback
All feedback received within the consultation period will be reviewed. Where appropriate, the Guidelines and tools may be revised to reflect stakeholder input, practical implementation considerations and relevant improvements identified through the engagement process.
Stakeholder comments will help ensure that the final Guidelines and tools are practical, industry-relevant and useful for Malaysian rubber processors, manufacturers and related value chain participants as they strengthen ESG adoption, reporting readiness, evidence management and continuous improvement.
Important Note
The draft Guidelines, Quick Start and supporting tools are intended as practical guidance and self-assessment resources. They do not replace applicable laws, regulations, certification requirements, customer requirements, professional advice, external audits or formal assurance processes. Companies should assess their own operational context, customer requirements, supply chain exposure and regulatory obligations when applying the Guidelines and tools.
