Malaysia's Rubber Production, Consumption and Trade in Rubber


Production

  • During the first three quarters of 2020, rubber production declined by 12.7% to 523.2 thousand tonnes from 599.3 thousand tonnes in the corresponding period of 2019.
  • NR made up 71% of the total production of rubber with 372.4 thousand tonnes, while SR accounts for 29% of rubber production in the first three quarters of 2020.

Consumption

  • Rubber consumption in the first three quarters of 2020 rose by 5.8% to reach 848.8 thousand tonnes from 802.2 thousand tonnes in the previous year.
  • NR made up 45% of the total consumption of rubber with 381.9 thousand tonnes, while SR accounts for 55% of rubber consumption in the first three quarters of 2020.

Import

  • NR and SR imports accounted for 72% and 28% respectively of the total rubber imports in the first nine months of 2020.
  • NR imports increased by 15% to 854.5 thousand tonnes while imports of SR decreased by 25% to 328.6 thousand tonnes in the same period of 2020.


Export

  • NR remained the biggest export in the first three quarters of 2020, accounting for 87% of total rubber exports while SR accounted for 13%.
  • NR exports increased by 2% to 774.0 thousand tonnes, while SR exports decreased by 15% to 113.2 thousand tonnes in the first three quarters in 2020.
